Sometimes the secret to saving time isn't to buy pre-made appetizers, or pre-chopped onions, or pre-stickified carrots. Sometimes it's just making the choice to do something simple, something that doesn't take much fussing to be delicious.
Shisito peppers. Fried in a little peanut oil until they blister, sprinkled with salt, and served.
Good for a pre-dinner snack, as we had them the other night, or even to kick off a dinner party. Fancy enough for company but easy to do. The hardest part is finding them, to be honest. (You really can't do this with jalapenos unless your guests' mouths are lined with Kevlar.) But if you happen across a pile of shisito peppers at the market and wonder What would I do with those? the answer is Happily, very little.
