Yay! Finally got my copy edits on The Kitchen Daughter back to the publisher. And no matter how many times you go over a document, how flawless you think it is, a fresh pair of eyes will find some flaws.
And thank goodness for that, because if my copy editor hadn't found my silly errors like an extra l in "Castelvetrano" (it's a type of olive), it would have made it into the finished book, and then somebody would probably have written an angry Amazon review saying I clearly don't know what I'm talking about, etc. etc.
The copy editing process also helped me find one more error, in a different way: I baked a batch of Midnight Cry Brownies, the recipe from the third chapter, to deliver along with the manuscript.
And the baking time in the recipe was way too short. At 20 minutes the brownies were still liquid. So for one thing, I baked them longer, and for another, I fixed the recipe in the book.
Never hurts to go over something one more time.
