After debating the title SIMMER on and off for a long time -- pretty much ever since I first thought of it -- I always thought of it as a bit of a placeholder. I liked it, but I didn't love it. Then after spending a couple of years trying to think of something better and failing, I loved it, because everyone I talked to loved it, and none of us could think of something better.
But now we've got something better.
I am pleased beyond words to announce that my debut novel will be coming out in Spring 2011 as THE KITCHEN DAUGHTER.
While this book is about a lot more than cooking, food is at its heart. Food is the lens that Ginny, the main character, sees everything through. The title had to say that. The book is also about Ginny's struggle to adjust after her parents' death, learning more about both her parents and re-evaluating those relationships. Daughter is the way she defines herself. The kitchen daughter is the one who hides herself in the kitchen, cooking, while another daughter might be in other rooms of the house or even beyond it.
Yep. THE KITCHEN DAUGHTER. That's Ginny, and that's the book. It's right. And I'm very, very happy.
Yay!

Oh man, I have to wait until Spring 2011? I read the quick blurb on your story on Writer Unboxed and giggled you ... ah well, I'll put you on my wishlist at Sony Reader store (tell your publisher to ensure you are on the Sony site!).
